CJ Anderson

CJ Anderson has been obsessed with science fiction and fantasy for as long as she can remember. Star Wars, Superman and Transformers are among her earliest memories. But it was Madeline L’Engle’s book, A Wrinkle in Time, that first grabbed her attention as an elementary student to the genre in the world of books. She has been reading Young Adult, Science Fiction and Fantasy ever since!

Creating stories has been a life-long journey for CJ. As a young child she create stories to tell her imaginary friends. Later on in school, when she became bored during class, adventures in fairytale lands, were a common theme running wild in her imagination. It never really occurred to her to write them down, though, until she was older and taking a class on creativity. Once she started writing, she never wanted to stop. She says it’s one of the best decisions she’s ever made.

CJ has been teaching Gifted & Talented for six years and has been both encouraged and inspired by her students. She lives in Iowa with her husband, two beautiful daughters and two cats. When she isn’t writing, teaching or spending time with her family, you can find her working out, reading or fangirling, of course! The God Kissed: Awakened is her first novel and the first book in a planned trilogy.

“It all happens so fast. Dru is calling my name and I look up toward the cliff. When I move my head I catch a glimpse of something in my peripheral vision; something big, something that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up straight. It’s some sort of large and scary looking creature and it’s prowling straight toward me.

The creature is as large as a bear, but it has the body and head of a lion with something that looks like a goat rising out of its back and a long tail, at least six feet long, whipping around with the head of what looks to be a large, creepy venomous snake. My pulse quickens as if fear itself were trapping me and I’m incapacitated.

I think I must be either a) dreaming, b) crazy, or c) dead because then I see Dru flying through the air. What the hell? He is going to kill himself! What is he doing?

Dru slams into the monster; it flies through the air and then drops to the ground. As far as I can tell, with the exception of the snake, which is partially smashed beneath the body, the monster is knocked out. The snake head is making a high pitched hissing sound and it makes me feel sick to my stomach.

Then, Dru is right beside me holding me tight against him. Both of our hearts are pounding.

“Alayna! Alayna, luv, are you OK?” Dru asks, his voice uneasy.

I’m baffled. “Me? Am I OK? What about you? You just jumped, no flew, no, I don’t know what the hell you did but you just slammed into a…a …a…was that a chimera?!…and after jumping from that height, you just walked away!” I stammer.

“I know,” Dru says, “and I can explain. But first, I think we need to head back the way we came before our friend wakes up. She is going to be pissed off!”

He grabs my hand and we run. I’m fast, but it’s hard to maneuver through the woods with all the brush and vegetation, much of which is waist high.

We’re about a quarter mile from the motorcycle when we finally see the trail. Dru slows down for just a moment, looks around and grabs my hand. “Faster!” He yells. “It’s coming.”

I chance a quick glance behind us and see three enraged heads. One is roaring, one hissing, and one is making a terrible ear-deafening bleating sound. I run faster than I have ever run before, even faster than yesterday at the track. Adrenaline is rushing through my veins so quickly that it keeps me going.

We’re almost there but the creature is gaining on us. We can see the motorcycle at the bottom of the cliff. All we have to do is run down the hill and turn the corner and we will be home free.”

Never trust a pretty face. My grandma taught me that. She warned me about the Fair Folk but I never believed her…until I was kidnapped by one. And damn, he is pretty.

But Fin was sent to bring me to his King, and if I want to survive the Otherworld, I have no choice but to trust him – for now.

Oh, and did I mention my sexy best friend is hunting me? I should’ve listened to Gran.

We are so happy to have H.G. Lynch join us today!

1) Describe your relationship with a good book. A specific good book? Clockwork Prince is my favourite book, and it’s a love-hate relationship. That book ruined me. It made me fall in love and broke my heart and glued the pieces back together only to smash them apart again.

2) When did you first start writing and what was the first thing that you wrote that you were proud of? I started writing when I was fifteen, and the day I finished the manuscript for my first book was one of the proudest moment of my life.

3) Please describe your work ethic as an author. My work ethic is kind of bipolar – sometimes I’ll write 6000 words in a day, and sometimes I’ll leave a story for a week without writing a word. I have to do a lot of promotion for my books as well. Sometimes I’ll spend hours and hours on promotion without a break, and sometimes I’ll hop on Facebook and lose the will to do anything at all.

4) How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life? Not very well. I rarely see my friends, rarely go out, because as soon as I leave the house I feel like I should be writing or promoting my books instead of doing frivolous things like shopping and seeing movies. The only exception is the time I spend with my boyfriend – I always make time for him, and I never feel guilty about it.

5) Why did you write this book? I wrote Cursed Rebel because I like to try new things in writing. I’ve written vampire books, a werewolf book, a New Adult, an Erotica, even a zombie dystopian…it was about time I tried faeries.

6) What experiences from your past do you find yourself drawing upon repeatedly for inspiration in your work? Probably my lack of appeal to males. I have social anxiety, and I had an eating disorder for a long time because of stress from bullying, so in school, I wasn’t in a healthy state – as a result, I was small and nervous and felt like I would never find a guy to love me. I like to write female characters who don’t want or expect love, and then throw it at them and see how it changes them.

7) What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years, both as an author and in your outside life? Well I’d like to be a New York Times Bestselling author, and I’d like to have the money to buy my own house.

8) Since you are a storyteller, please tell one good lie about yourself. I hate cats.

Looking at the faery boy in front of me, with his exquisite features and striking eyes, I thought that Grandma had been right. I was realising she had been right about a lot of things. I wished I’d listened to her better, wished I’d believed her when she warned me about the Fair Folk.

Staring into those inhumanly bright eyes, seeing the glitter of something cruel beneath that prettiness, I whimpered. I didn’t mean to, and the second I did, I wished I hadn’t. I couldn’t show fear there, or the beautiful monsters would tear me apart like well-disguised lions.

The Soul Stone by Jamie Marchant–Interview

 photo The-Soul-Stone.jpg

Title:  The Soul Stone
Series:  The Kronicles of Korthlundia #2 (Standalone)
Author: Jamie Marchant
Published:  June 25th, 2015
Publisher:   Black Rose Writing
Genre:  Epic Fantasy
Content Warning:
Recommended Age:  18+

Synopsis:  In this sequel to The Goddess’s Choice (Reliquary Press, 2012), the Crown Princess Samantha and Sir Robrek struggle to solidify their rule in the aftermath of the king’s murder and Duke Argblutal’s attempt to usurp the throne. They are thwarted at every turn by those who seek power for themselves and desire to prevent their marriage. Just when they think their problems are solved, a deadly curse begins to spread throughout Korthlundia and Samantha becomes pregnant.

In my sword and sorcery novel, The Soul Stone, Samantha must fight off priests, enemies, and her closest advisors while Robrek discovers the reason the goddess chose him as king, to defeat the Soul Stone, a stone capable of sucking the soul out of its victims, which threatens to obliterate all life in the joined kingdoms. Their archenemy, the Bard Alvabane, awakens the Soul Stone and plans to use its power to reclaim Korthlundia for her people (a people driven out over a thousand years ago by the hero Armunn). Armunn had to sacrifice his life and soul to contain the Soul Stone. Will Robrek have to do the same? Will the young couple have only a few short months to love each other?

Although having read The Goddess’s Choice adds depth to The Soul Stone, it is not necessary. The Soul Stone is a complete story of its own.

The sequel to The Goddess’s Choice, titled The Soul Stone, will be released in June 2015 from Black Rose Writing. Her short fiction has been published in the anthologies–Urban Fantasy and Of Dragons & Magic: Tales of the Lost Worlds—and in Bards & Sages, The World of Myth, A Writer’s Haven, and Short-story.me.
We are so excited to have Jamie Marchant with us this morning!

1) Describe your relationship with a good book.

A good book is a best friend that accompanies you on an exciting adventure. A good book won’t let you down and will take you places you’ve never even imagined.

2) When did you first start writing and what was the first thing that you wrote that you were proud of?

I started writing stories about the Man from Mars for my older sister when I was about six. I was extremely proud of them at the time, and my brother who is three years older than me promised me he’d get them published if I wrote enough of them. I have no idea how he intended to fulfill this promise, but I believed they were worthy of being published. I’ve written other things that I was proud of at the time I wrote them, but I think my first truly “good” work is The Goddess’s Choice.

3) Please describe your work ethic as an author.

I’m not sure “work ethic” is the right word. When I’m writing, work doesn’t seem to enter the picture. A friend once told me that I must have a lot of discipline to write as much as I do. I thought I needed discipline to do anything else.

4) How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life?

I am fortunate in my profession. As faculty at a major university, I have a very flexible schedule and only have a few hours a week where I absolutely have to be in a specific place. This allows me to do the work that actually pays at a time when the muse isn’t flowing. When the writing is going well, I can usually put off grading and preparation for a time that is less conducive to writing. In addition, my only son is in college so does not need my time nearly as much as he did when he was younger. Overall, I have a much easier time balancing the various aspects of my life than many writers do.

5) Why did you write this book?

The Goddess’s Choice, my first novel, retells my favorite childhood fairy tale, “The Princess and the Glass Hill.” (Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of it. Nobody else has either.) When I came to the end of that novel, my main characters—Samantha and Robrek—let me know that their story wasn’t over. They had so much more to say, so I let them say it in The Soul Stone. Too many stories end with the marriage of the hero and heroine, as does The Goddess’s Choice, but real life doesn’t end with marriage. Marriage is a beginning, not an ending, and our romantic relationships are only one aspect of our lives. Problems, difficulties, and complications often beset us even when our relationship with our significant other is going well. The Soul Stone lets me show this. Robrek and Samantha remain in love, but their lives are anything but soothe sailing.

6) What experiences from your past do you find yourself drawing upon repeatedly for inspiration in your work?

Reading and storytelling were a big part of my childhood. My mother read to us and took us to the library regularly to make sure we always had books. In addition, my older sister told me fairy tales and other stories. It is this heritage of stories that I draw most heavily upon when I write my own work. Other aspects of my experience come in from time to time. I drew on my grandmother to create Samantha’s father, King Solar. My fascination with the archaic nature of rodeo comes in with my current work in progress. However, it is the stories I was told as a child that provide a richer source of inspiration than my actual experiences.

7) What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years, both as an author and in your outside life?

As an author, I hope to be able to find an agent and get my next novel published by one of the big five publishers. I know my odds are about as good as the high school athlete’s dream of playing professional ball, but I still cling to it. After all, they need to publish someone, and it might as well be me. I’m relatively happy with my outside life as is, but one thing I would like is to move out of the South. Even though I’ve lived in Alabama for sixteen years now, it is still a foreign place.

8) Since you are a storyteller, please tell one good lie about yourself.

My mother was a Korthlundian princess and my father a fairy, so that makes me a fairy princess.

  1. Describe your relationship with a good book.

I have a love-hate relationships with books. I love reading them, delving in the story, and living with the characters. I hate the fact that they wrap me up in their world and leave me sleep deprived and begging for more.

  1. When did you first start writing and what was the first thing that you wrote that you were proud of?

I started writing in 2011 when my sister went into the Navy. The first piece I was proud of was a short story that was printed in a horror anthology. Unfortunately, the anthology was only printed for the backers of a Kickstarter project and will not be printed publicly.

  1. Please describe your work ethic as an author.

Work ethic? Well, I try to write as often as possible without ignoring my family. But sometimes thing happen and I forgets that life exists outside of my books. When it comes to special requests or edits, I try to jump on them as soon as I can. Overall, I think I have a fairly decent work ethic.

  1. How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life?

It’s really hard to find a balance. There aren’t enough hours to get everything I want to do done. I fit writing in whenever I can. It usually cuts in to the time I have to sleep. But, somehow, with the help of the amazing men in my life, I manage to get most of my things done.

5.  What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years, both as an author and in your outside life?

The next five years. I don’t even know what I’m going to have for dinner tonight, let alone my plans for next five years. I hope to finish the two series that I have started and a plethora of half-baked manuscripts waiting on my computer. I also hope to retire from my job to work full time on my books. I would like to do a little traveling, but other than that, I have no idea.

6.  Since you are a storyteller, please tell one good lie about yourself.

When I was sixteen, I worked in the catering department at a haunted amusement park. One evening, while cleaning up after a catered picnic, my coworker and I were sent to gather the last of the food from the cooler in the shelter. As we went out, we were surprised to find a young girl in a blue dress standing in the middle of the picnic shelter. It was well after dark and we had been closed for a while. No one should have been there. When we called out to ask if she was lost, she looked at us then turned and walked straight through a six foot tall privacy fence. Needless to say, the shelter did not get cleaned that night.

I’ll leave it up to you to decide if that is a real or not… either way it’s a GREAT story!

She talks to herself—a lot—in her South Texas home while she plots stories about fantasy worlds and sips coffee from a pitcher. She’s known for cooking far too much food and has a tendency to overdo…well, everything. It is rumored that she is fabulous. Nely Cab is the best-selling author of the Creatura series.
Now here’s my conversation with the beautiful and talented Nely Cab!
Describe your relationship with a good book.

If a book makes my feelings rise—if I get angry, sad, laugh—then I’m sure to fall with it.

When did you first start writing and what was the first thing that you wrote that you were proud of?

As a profession, I started writing seven years ago. But when I was ten years old I wrote a story about an ant and a mouse, and I sent it off to a publishing company. I remember being very proud of my crayon illustrated, hand written construction paper book. I even stapled it. Of course, it got returned, saying the publisher didn’t take unsolicited nor un-agented submissions.

Please describe your work ethic as an author.

My work ethic is as follows: Respect other authors’ works because I can learn from them. Treat my writing like an art, a business, and an escape from reality. Try new things and challenge myself to be better.

How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life?

I have to make checklists for everything that needs to get done. Sometimes I don’t have time to write because I’m busy with household things. So I get up much earlier, like today, or don’t go to bed until much later than usual to get the items on my list checked off.

Why did you write this book?

Because it’s the sequel to the first and I couldn’t leave my readers or myself hanging.

What experiences from your past do you find yourself drawing upon repeatedly for inspiration in your work?

I stop everything and remember what it was like to be me as a teenager. I ask myself what was important to me, what was I thinking, what made me react certain ways? That helps me create the teenage heroine’s frame of mind.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years, both as an author and in your outside life?

As an author, I hope to write another series or a few stand-alone books. In my personal life, I hope to travel more.

Since you are a storyteller, please tell one good lie about yourself.

Four years ago I was visiting a friend right outside of town. Sarah lives in a ranching and farming community where it’s common for property owners to set up and sell their homegrown produce from their front yard. On this particular summer day, on the way to Sarah’s house, I saw watermelons for sale. I parked on the side of the road, got off my car, and proceeded to ask the owner—a woman in her forties—for the price.

“Oh, they’re not for sale,” she said. “I’m throwing them out. You can help yourself to as many as you like. But I can’t guarantee they’ll be any good.”

“They look fine to me,” I said, inspecting one of the watermelons. I picked it up and thanked the woman.

When I got to Sarah’s house, I cut up the watermelon. Still I didn’t notice anything wrong with it. The only thing that was wrong with it was that it was too warm. I placed it in the icebox, and Sarah and I chatted while the watermelon chilled. Half an hour later, we were enjoying the sweetest watermelon I’d ever tasted. It was so good in fact, that we didn’t realize we’d eaten the whole thing—seeds and all. After sunset, I drove home.

The next morning I woke to the sound of my vibrating phone.

“Hello?” I said, groggily.

“Nely,” Sarah sounded alarmed, “I think—I think I’m pregnant.”

“Congratulations,” I said.

“No, you don’t understand. My stomach is…” She trailed off, and I heard her whimper.

Sarah?” I sat up. That’s when I noticed it. My stomach was like a full moon. I gasped.

“Oh gawd,” Sarah said. “Now I know why my mom always told me not eat watermelon seeds.”

On-the-Accidental-Wings-of-Dragons

Her anger flamed again as she went on. “And now, you have the nerve to come out here, demanding that I hand him over. After having heard his case. Seeing the evidence! And you call yourself a king? How dare you! You’re nothing but a three-footed, webbed-winged…”

Carissa’s mouth moved as she continued to insult Kyle, but her anger had burned through the magic holding Michael’s voice. A smirk broke out across Kyle’s face, inflaming Carissa’s anger even more. Reaching out, she grabbed the front of his shirt and slammed her lips to his, stealing his voice.

This is not a laughing matter!” she screamed at him.

Shock raced across Kyle’s face. She rarely borrowed his voice. And she never took it without asking. His knees caught the edge of the couch, and he went down.

She glared at him as he sat on the couch. “You want Michael? Fine!” Carissa turned and stormed back into the kitchen. Michael tried to scamper away from the raging woman, but she snatched him up. “Fine!” she yelled again as she stormed back to her shocked brother. “Here!” She dumped the little dragon into her brother’s lap.

Kyle’s hands came up to keep Michael from falling off.

Don’t you dare hurt one goddamn scale on his hide! Do you hear me? He’s mine! And if you even think about asking how he got to be a dragon, you will rue the day you were hatched!

Genre:  Paranormal Romance
Content Warning:  Explicit sexual material
Recommended Age:  18+ photo Dream-Warrior.jpg

Along the edges of darkness, a war of attrition rages between the demon plane and the Tehrex Realm.  Dark Warriors alone stand between humans and the evil that seeks to destroy them.  Zander Tarakesh, the sexy as sin vampire king, leads the battle.  Zander is battle-hardened and accustomed to command, yet wrestles to regain control when his Fated Mate is propelled into his world, bombarding him with unfamiliar emotions.  His life depends on him uniting with Elsie, the slip of a mortal, who unknowingly protects a vital piece of his soul.  Eradicating the demons will be an easier task than combating her sense of guilt and betrayal to gain her acceptance, loyalty, and ultimately her love.  And, he must do this before she plunges a stake in his heart.  One thing is certain; the flames of passion ignite a fire in their shared souls…

Elsie Hayes’ life is shattered after the vicious murder of her husband.  Intent on revenge, she spends her evenings killing creatures others only see in nightmares.  A supernatural event teleports Elsie into a world filled with violence, magic and unexpected lust and love when she is thrust from widow to Fated Mate of the enigmatic vampire king.  Can she lower the protective shield around her heart, giving herself to a vampire whose power is the very reason her life was changed forever?

Excerpt
Elsie woke, drenched in sweat with a scream trapped on her lips and her sheets tangled around her legs. Her sister stirred next to her on the queen-sized mattress. She didn’t want to wake her and shoved a fist into her mouth, stifling the scream from clawing its way out as the images from her nightmare continued to consume her. No matter how long and hard she fought it, the visions and memories refused to leave her.

It always started the same, with her standing on cracked linoleum in the long hall of the group home where Dalton was murdered. She had relived that entire night countless times over the past eighteen months. She squeezed her eyes shut as the images flooded her aching brain for what seemed like the millionth time. An abattoir surrounded her. The walls were sprayed with blood, and there were pools of the crimson liquid congealing on the black-and-white checkerboard floor. She gagged when she saw a lump of bright, red meat on the floor. Flesh. Yellow flags and cones lined the walls and floor, amidst the carnage. Her stomach revolted while her body went numb.

In between heaving, she had whispered a plea for help. No one responded and she fell into a heap on the floor. Mindless of the blood she sat in, she gazed at the sight of her husband lying in a pool of blood, his sightless eyes trained on her. His neck had been torn open and shredded. How long she sat there screaming she didn’t know. But, finally, a police officer escorted her away from his body and out of the house where her nightmare was made worse when she came up against a mass of news media shouting questions about her husband being the latest TwiKill victim. Her world came to a crashing halt that night. At that moment, a huge black hole imploded into an endless ache in her chest.

Now, eighteen months later, that black hole had grown thorns and pierced her heart. The pain forced her to curl into a ball on her bed. She hated how much power the memories had over her. Joining SOVA had been a way to gain some of that power back. Still, she longed to be a normal college student again. You haven’t been normal since you were three years old, she thought wryly.

 About the Authors:
Neither Brenda nor Tami grew up writing stories or dreaming of one day being authors but that changed when they shared a joint dream of creating a world to bring to life the stories of a group of dangerously handsome supernaturals.Brenda is a Southern California girl who grew up in chaos, having ten siblings.  Her mother is a brave, courageous woman who gave birth to a small village of children and has successfully battled advanced stage breast cancer for almost two years.  Her parents did something right and taught Brenda how to persevere and accomplish whatever she set her mind to.  Whether that was completing her bachelors and Masters degrees, or writing books, she is always up for a challenge.Brenda survived the brutal murder of her first husband, John DeCaprio, at the hands of the children he was counseling to go on and help children in similar situations.  Brenda remarried years later and now lives with her husband and their three fun-loving, energetic children.  She loves running, reading, cooking, and Monster Energy drinks.  And, Tami’s margaritas!Tami is a southern girl, born and raised in Georgia. She is married and has two boys, so needless to say, she is surrounded by testosterone. We are trying to bottle Tami’s strength and positive outlook on life.  It has helped her beat breast cancer and she is a proud three-year survivor. She loves reading paranormal romances, running at the lake near her home, watching college football (Go Dawgs!!!), and is always in search of the next best margarita.

Their life journeys led them both to Texas and one another.  They fast became best friends and can always be found together.  Whether it’s lounging by the pool or writing steamy love scenes, they are frequently seen pissing themselves from laughter.  It’s embarrassing, really.  But that’s ok, life is good!

Here’s my interview with these lovely ladies!
  1. Describe your relationship with a good book.

A good book is like a great love affair. You’d rather be immersed between the pages just like you’d be between the sheets. You put off house work, laundry and anything else just to get to the next chapter. And, the more passion, the better.

  1. When did you first start writing and what was the first thing that you wrote that you were proud of?

If you don’t count college, and trust us, we don’t because those years were too long ago to remember. Dream Warrior was our first endeavor as authors and we are most proud of it. It’s our baby and took us two years and countless revisions to get to the version you can download today. We are immensely proud of the accomplishment and hope you enjoy reading it as much as we have enjoyed writing it.

  1. Please describe your work ethic as an author.

Our work ethic involves laughter, candy and Monster Energy Drinks. We write every day and our routine is the same. It’s like any other job, you’ve got to put the time in. When we have conflicts we take sick leave and make the hours up later in the day. When not writing, we focus on the business aspect of being an Indie author and talking about ideas for future books.

  1. How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life?

We are married with children and our writing is primarily when they are at school and work. We switch to mom role when they get home and become taxi, swim mom, teacher and nurse. We stuff the job of taking care of the house into every free half hour that we can and if there is a larger pile of dirty laundry or if the toys need to be picked up, that’s okay.

  1. Why did you write this book?

We had many great love affairs with books and would develop stories on our walks to the elementary school in the afternoons. Finally, we decided to write them down. It was amazing how each idea has taken a life of its own. It’s been a blast!

  1. What experiences from your past do you find yourself drawing upon repeatedly for inspiration in your work?

We began Dream Warrior with the inspiration of the murder of Brenda’s first husband, but we really use life as inspiration. We carry an iPad and are constantly telling each other to jot ideas down so we don’t forget. Nothing is held sacred from us and we’ve had all of our friends sign a waiver! Our motto is, ‘it’ll end up in a book’.

  1. What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years, both as an author and in your outside life?

Our goal was to have seven books released in our first year and we will reach that, if not, surpass it. Of course, we’d love to make a best sellers list, but honestly we have so many stories that we still want to share. Once we opened that closet door, the skeletons fell out and just keep coming. Some have been charred by the fire of life and some still have bloody bits of flesh clinging to them, but they all make for juicy stories. Outside life? What’s that?

  1. Since you are a storyteller, please tell one good lie about yourself.

We have to confess that we really aren’t best friends…we’re twin sisters. And, to top it off, we’re vampires. Don’t tell our parents (Zander and Elsie), but Dream Warrior is their story. We grew up hearing the great love story between mom and dad and always thought it romantic. When dad issued a royal decree telling us that he wasn’t supporting us any longer (Apparently, we should be able to earn our keep when we reach one hundred and twenty five. Absurd, right?), we decided to pretend to be humans and publish their story as a way to support ourselves. Writing the love scenes between our parents forced us into therapy, but even with that expense, we are rolling in the money, so we’ve decided to move on and write Uncle Jace and Aunt Cailyn’s story then Uncle Kyran and Aunt Mackendra’s. If mom doesn’t put us in the Zeum dungeons after that, we plan to cover the whole family. Who knew dysfunction was so lucrative? Thanks for joining us on this adventure and we hope you’ll stay tuned for more to come.

Isis’ goals for the future included things like attending and graduating college. However, becoming a monster wasn’t part of the plan. Isis and her boyfriend, David, are on the brink of a horrible transformation and they are eager to stop it. Together, they set out on a quest to Greece to find Isis’ biological father—the only person that may be able to help them. Their journey comes to an abrupt stop before it even begins when Isis falls ill, and Eros, David’s best friend, arrives in Athens, unannounced and curious…with a plan of his own.

The hunt for her father leads Isis on the turbulent path of deceit, death, and demons as she anticipates the dawning of the beast that stirs inside her.

David was still fast asleep. I looked in my compact mirror to fix my makeup. The pupils of my green eyes had grown thin and long, like that of a serpent. I turned to a passenger that was seated across the aisle from us and hissed before I attacked.

Crushing her throat between my jaws made her body jerk. My tongue savored the iron in her blood. I felt its warmth trickle down the side of my mouth and over my chin. She squirmed, fighting for her life, gasping for air, and clawing her fingers into my arms. Finally, her eyes rolled back, her body becoming a limp piece of meat that no longer held my interest.

The passengers’ screams reminded me I wasn’t alone. I raised my head in search of new prey. The terror that filled their eyes delivered me into the open arms of euphoria. Feeling the bliss of satiation, I realized that I liked to kill.

Would we go back, charging through our own history, changing and tweaking, plucking at that fragile thread until time itself unraveled all around us? Would we become our own heroes, or would we become villains?
