Excerpt from So Shall I Reap by Kathy-Lynn Cross:
Flames and darkness served as a reminder of the future we faced. Resting both forearms around my middle and feeling defeated, I shuddered. Filling in my view with his unreadable stare, he then glanced away briefly and whispered, “I wonder if a soulless creature is worthy to be bound by a heart, tied to a soul? Yet, as you stand there looking at me, I continue seeing the eyes of the child I once knew. Do you still want to offer me your soul?”

Without hesitation, sorrow for him exploded inside my chest. Thin lines of ink trailed down his cheeks, and I reached up to caress this face while pulling him closer for a chance to kiss his lips. Even for a moment, to give him a taste of my soul.
How did I know him?

I hadn’t grasped the words he spoke, let alone the feelings I had for him. Without conscious control over my voice, it answered him for me, “I can only choose what is right and pure. This is my only function. My heart is all the power I can give you right now.” I was unsure what I meant, but he smiled at me. The creatures formed a tighter circle around us and their wings appeared to be dripping hot silver acid that melted into what looked like cloaks made of the same black mist rising from the ground. Without notice, I found myself wrapped within two massive wings.

His wings sizzled as he pulled me into his icy embrace, leaning in to whisper against the inner part of my ear, “They say love knows no bounds. Death only has one boundary, and you cross over it when your heart stops. But written on the Unseen scrolls, it states this one emotion will last even after the breath ceases.”

With his trail of words still lingering against the inside curvature of my ear, my composure disappeared. The blankets were wrapped tight around me like a cocoon. If I didn’t know better, I would have sworn it had snowed in the room overnight. Shadows were thick and barricaded the bedroom and closet doors. No escape from the nightly terrors. Rubbing the grit from each lash, I unwrapped from the cocoon of covers, followed by flopping one leg at a time to the floor. My mind was clouded in the thick fog making it difficult to push off the bed. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever been so weak and chilled from sweating. An overwhelming need washed over me to open the drapes and cleanse the bedroom from the unknown with the glow from the streetlights. His presence remained in the room with me. Turning slowly from the window, it felt as if I were wearing lead shoes. Pushing their weight toward the mirror, I was horrified at the face gaping back at me. I leaned closer to try and comprehend what the glass was telling me. Two small, dried streams of red gleamed on my cheeks. I was frozen in a nonexistent moment of time. My breath caught as I gasped… and woke up.

The Lightning Prophecy by Emily Cyr–Book Tour and Interview

Title: The Lightning Prophecy

Series: The Lightning Witch Series, Book 1

Author: Emily Cyr

Published: May 21st, 2015

Publisher: Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing

Genre: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance

Content Warning: Adult sexual content, minor gore

Age Recommendation: 18+

Delaney Hagen’s power to control lightning is unique, even among witches. That uniqueness has caused her to run and hide from her kind – and the other supernatural beings in the world. Finally, after years of running, she feels safe enough to settle down. But her life’s calm is completely destroyed when her best friend is murdered. Delaney teams up with the mysterious and sexy Reid Jamison to figure out just what is going down in her world. Delaney will have to make a choice between her life and love. Will she be the product of a prophecy or will her fate be changed?Reid Jamison knew this case wouldn’t be easy. But, with the money the Coven was throwing at him, how could he say no? When he met Delaney Hagen, his whole world began to unravel. Faced with a prophecy, murders, love and betrayal, will Reid be able to hang on to this new world? Or will it slip away?

“I, my dear, am a shape shifter, as we like to be called, but think of me as a werewolf. And the Coven hired myself and my partner to handle this matter as discreetly as possible.”
He didn’t back away. He just sat there, staring at me. He seemed to be waiting on something, a reaction of some kind. A shape shifter or werewolf. I was officially living in Twilight. Oh my God, this guy looked serious. I laughed in his face. I mean, what else could I do?
“Are you done yet?” he said, looking mighty annoyed.
“Yes, I think so. But really, what are you?” I asked, half snickering.
He leaned even closer and his eyes went green. Those beautiful caramel-colored eyes freakin’ turned green, as in traffic light green. I abruptly stood, knocking the chair over behind me and scrambling over it. My foot caught on the leg of the chair and I went down, but I would not be a victim to this, this thing.
On hands and knees I scrambled over to the pantry door, but before I could stand up I saw him move. He calmly walked over to me, moving the chair out of the way, and offered me a hand. Yeah, right. Was he nuts? I called the lightning to my hand and raised it to him in threat. I was going to barbeque his ass. Brick house or not, his ass was grass. I didn’t stop to even think about the Coven or what they would do if they found out about me.
Between shaking lips I said, “Get the fuck away from me or this ball of lightning is going to turn you into beef jerky!”
He raised an eyebrow at me and flicked his glance at my hand and took two small steps back. He put his hands on his hips and peered down at me.
“Now, Ms. Delaney, the question is, what are you?”

Emily has stopped by here on her book tour, so let’s chat!

Describe your relationship with a good book.

A good book, like a truly, knock your socks off, knock down drag out, great book is like a pillow. You cry into it. You snuggle with it. You share thoughts and worries with it. And when you’re done at night and you are finished with it, it will still be there waiting for the next time.

When did you first start writing and what was the first thing that you wrote that you were proud of?

I wrote a children’s book while I was in middle school. It was for a competition. I didn’t win but I was so proud of it because I had completed it. I had created it from nothing.

Please describe your work ethic as an author.

I work every day to grow. I am never done learning and changing how I do things. I work incredibly hard at growing as an author. I take care of my two little boys but I push through everything to do what I love. As far as work ethic, I write fulltime so I treat it like any other job. It’s a shame my boss is a hard ass!

How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life?

I am a mommy to two little boys. I care for them 80% of the time as my husband is gone with work quite a bit. For me I take the time when I can! I work when my kids sleep or when we are having a lazy day. But, in the end they do come first. I also don’t stress.

Why did you write this book?

This book started out as fan fiction. But, my husband said, “Why don’t you create your own world?” And, that was it. I loved the idea of creating something from nothing! Witches and werewolves have been done, but the way I have intertwined them seems to breathe new life into them.

What experiences from your past do you find yourself drawing upon repeatedly for inspiration in your work?

I have had a lot of loss I pull from. I lost my mom at an early age and have had some other personal losses. I needed to find a way to heal and have found that though writing.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years, both as an author and in your outside life?

I would love to have a number of paranormal series going as well as a few standalone novels. Outside of writing I hope to move to Germany if that’s where the military sends us next! But I also hope to have had another child and completed my crazy family!

Since you are a storyteller, please tell one good lie about yourself.

When I was about six I fell off a horse. I broke my back in two places and had a near body cast for almost a whole year. But, when I landed something I my brain got jostled and from that moment on I could see dead people.

Interview with Julie Wetzel

Julie Wetzel, author of Kindling Flame and Granting Wishes, among several other books, has just published On the Accidental Wings of a Dragon, book one in her Dragons of Eternity series.  She is currently on a book tour directed by Juniper Grove Book solutions that is promoting her new romantic fantasy novel.  As part of that tour, she has stopped by for an interview.

Julie-Wetzel (1)Describe your relationship with a good book.

I have a love-hate relationships with books. I love reading them, delving in the story, and living with the characters. I hate the fact that they wrap me up in their world and leave me sleep deprived and begging for more.

When did you first start writing and what was the first thing that you wrote that you were proud of?

I started writing in 2011 when my sister went into the Navy. The first piece I was proud of was a short story that was printed in a horror anthology. Unfortunately, the anthology was only printed for the backers of a Kickstarter project and will not be printed publicly.

Please describe your work ethic as an author.

Work ethic? Well, I try to write as often as possible without ignoring my family. But sometimes thing happen and I forgets that life exists outside of my books. When it comes to special requests or edits, I try to jump on them as soon as I can. Overall, I think I have a fairly decent work ethic.

How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life?

It’s really hard to find a balance. There aren’t enough hours to get everything I want to do done. I fit writing in whenever I can. It usually cuts in to the time I have to sleep. But, somehow, with the help of the amazing men in my life, I manage to get most of my things done.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years, both as an author and in your outside life?

The next five years. I don’t even know what I’m going to have for dinner tonight, let alone my plans for next five years. I hope to finish the two series that I have started and a plethora of half-baked manuscripts waiting on my computer. I also hope to retire from my job to work full time on my books. I would like to do a little traveling, but other than that, I have no idea.

Since you are a storyteller, please tell one good lie about yourself.

When I was sixteen, I worked in the catering department at a haunted amusement park. One evening, while cleaning up after a catered picnic, my coworker and I were sent to gather the last of the food from the cooler in the shelter. As we went out, we were surprised to find a young girl in a blue dress standing in the middle of the picnic shelter. It was well after dark and we had been closed for a while. No one should have been there. When we called out to ask if she was lost, she looked at us then turned and walked straight through a six foot tall privacy fence. Needless to say, the shelter did not get cleaned that night.

I’ll leave it up to you to decide if that is a real or not… either way it’s a GREAT story!

Wicked-Luck

With a satisfied grin, I drop the book in my pocket and step out from behind the tree.

Well, well, well. What a predicament. Gives new meaning to the phrase ‘sticky situation’ doesn’t it?” My voice startles her and causes a sharp intake of breath as she opens her eyes.

Dax,” she says with a relieved exhale.

Hey princess.” I give her my best Cheshire smile. “Looks like your little escape plan didn’t work out so well, huh? Well, I hope you have better luck escaping from that pit of quicksand.”

I turn to walk away.

Wait! Where are you going?” she asks, and desperation oozes from her voice.

I pause to get control of the amusement cracking away at my serious expression before turning around. “I don’t know. I think I’ll head back to the beach and wait for a hot blonde to wash up on shore.” Her mouth falls open right on cue. “Oh, and sorry to break it to ya’, but you didn’t get the part. Since it’s my fantasy, I was looking for someone friendlier, a little more trusting, a little less sassy, and what was the last thing? Oh, yeah. Someone who actually likes me. But don’t feel bad—you nailed the physical profile,” I say with a wink.

Stop being a jerk and help me,” she says, and then softens her tone. “Please?”

I uncross my arms and rest my hands on my hips. I’m pretty sure she already regrets that last comment, but I can’t stop now. “Look, princess. I’m a lot of things, but a jerk isn’t one of them. And don’t worry; I’m sure someone else will find you soon. A hungry cannibal—or Roxy. And I’m starting to think you and her might make a good team. The pity-party duo. She’s hateful, complains constantly, and she’s also a member of the ‘I hate Dax club’, just like you.”

I turn my back on her again and take a step.

Wait! I don’t hate you. Please don’t leave me. I’m sorry.”

I’m a sucker for apologies but when I turn to face her, I can’t resist putting one hand behind my ear and tilting my head.

I’m really sorry,” she says again. “For running away and being so grumpy.” I wait for more, and she grits her teeth. “And for not listening to you.”

This is the part where I know she expects me to jump to her rescue, but I lean against a tree with a cocky grin and pull a banana from my pocket. She stares while I peel it, take a bite, and chew slowly. I’m savoring the fruit but also my triumph in having the upper hand.

Aren’t you going to help me?” she finally asks with a hint of worry.

I’m still debating. If I leave you here, at least I’ll know where you are and won’t have to worry about you running off. I could even build a little hut around you and toss you food and water now and then. You’d be a lot less trouble that way.”

Very funny,” she says, but I think it is and I can’t keep from laughing.

Her anger flamed again as she went on. “And now, you have the nerve to come out here, demanding that I hand him over. After having heard his case. Seeing the evidence! And you call yourself a king? How dare you! You’re nothing but a three-footed, webbed-winged…”

Carissa’s mouth moved as she continued to insult Kyle, but her anger had burned through the magic holding Michael’s voice. A smirk broke out across Kyle’s face, inflaming Carissa’s anger even more. Reaching out, she grabbed the front of his shirt and slammed her lips to his, stealing his voice.

This is not a laughing matter!” she screamed at him.

Shock raced across Kyle’s face. She rarely borrowed his voice. And she never took it without asking. His knees caught the edge of the couch, and he went down.

She glared at him as he sat on the couch. “You want Michael? Fine!” Carissa turned and stormed back into the kitchen. Michael tried to scamper away from the raging woman, but she snatched him up. “Fine!” she yelled again as she stormed back to her shocked brother. “Here!” She dumped the little dragon into her brother’s lap.

Kyle’s hands came up to keep Michael from falling off.

Don’t you dare hurt one goddamn scale on his hide! Do you hear me? He’s mine! And if you even think about asking how he got to be a dragon, you will rue the day you were hatched!

When Ben reappears in Kate’s life, she is only pulled deeper into the childhood that she’s tried to forget. Driven by the abuse and pain that still lingers within him, Ben seeks Kate’s help in making a change. But in this journey for retribution, lines blur between courage, justice, and revenge.
Bound by their shared and damaged youth, Kate is forced to choose sides, and fast. The final act is almost here, and time is running out.
Vanishing Act is a Lingering Echoes novel that can be read as part of the series or as a stand alone story. Fueled by the scars from an experience in foster care that no child should have to endure, Vanishing Act touches on serious issues that can continue to impact abuse victims well into their adult lives. Vanishing Act is an emotional drama with a sweet romance mixed in.
Excerpt
My vision blurred like I was walking outside in the rain. It may as well have been raining, with how emotionally drenched and defeated I felt as I marched out of my neighborhood. I didn’t know where I was going. Despite the familiar street, I felt lost and confused. I just knew I needed to keep moving, afraid that if I stood still, the storm of emotions would drown me.
Aaron became a silent companion at my side, keeping fast pace with my hurried steps. My thoughts stewed inside my head, a dangerous concoction of fear, hurt, and fury. My whole life I had worked to salvage this family. My entire purpose for going to college was to help us survive, even if our heads were barely above water. But it seemed the minute I’d left the house, both father and son were falling apart, sabotaging my efforts.
Aaron seemed to sense I was about to boil over because he eventually took my hand and pulled me onto the grass. He stood in front of me with both hands on my shoulders, trying to look into my eyes. I shook my head, knowing if I spoke one word that too many more would spew out of my mouth—bitter and resentful—and I’d never be able to take them back. Aaron’s hands moved to my back and he wrapped me in his arms, pulling my face against his chest. His strong hands pressed into my shoulder blades, holding me together like fractured porcelain.
I let the warm tears fall, one by one. I hoped that by keeping my eyes pulled tightly shut, that the tears wouldn’t find an exit. But they did—streaming one after the other until each droplet became a river, a driving current of emotion merging together. It would have felt dangerous without Aaron’s embrace, but I felt safe anchored in his arms.

photo Erica-Kiefer_1.jpgErica Kiefer was born on Christmas Eve in Southern California to an American father whose ancestors arrived from Europe during colonial times and a Thai mother who moved to the US during high school. Adding to her rich and varied heritage, Erica grew up living abroad in Asia, including Taiwan, Fiji, Thailand and Indonesia. She gained a great respect for the beautiful mosaic of cultures found in various parts of the world. After graduating from International School Bangkok, she attended Brigham Young University in Utah, where she earned a degree in Recreation Therapy. Her career as a Recreation Therapist has allowed her to work with at-risk youth since 2007. Erica made the best decision of her life by marrying her husband in 2005 and is currently a mother of three, one of whom awaits her in heaven. Erica also loves singing, reading, writing, and satisfying her sweet-tooth with chocolate-chip cookies. Playing collegiate rugby was one of the most memorable experiences of her life, thus far. Erica’s first book, Lingering Echoes, was signed by Clean Teen Publishing and released in early November 2013.

 Here’s my interview with Erica!

Describe your relationship with a good book.

When I am drawn into a good book, it’s like meeting a new best friend. I can’t help talking about it and telling other people how glad I am to have found it! Good books make me stop in the middle of a chapter just to slap my husband’s shoulder and giddily try to explain all the emotions I’m feeling! It’s impossible, really, especially for a husband who refuses to read novels.

When did you first start writing and what was the first thing that you wrote that you were proud of?

I found confidence in my writing throughout elementary school, which was why I decided early in life that I wanted to be an author someday! Of course, I had no idea how challenging a feat that actually is and that it would take me three years to figure it out and land the right publisher… That being said, I am extremely proud of Lingering Echoes (a related novel to my current new release, Vanishing Act). It’s the first novel I’ve ever written and I put so much of my heart into the storyline and characters that it reads very personally to me.

Please describe your work ethic as an author.

Quality versus quantity. I’ve never been able to regularly spit out pages and pages of a novel in one sitting. My writing process is very methodical, and if I’m going to write something, I want it to be worth reading! I have a hard time writing “drafts” because I like getting it right (or at least mostly right) the first time. This makes me a very slow writer, but I will give myself credit that I don’t have to spend as much time with editing or rewrites.

How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life?

As a mother with three young children—and I’m talking young! A four year-old daughter, two year-old son, and a 3 month-old baby boy—I’ll admit, it’s rather tricky! My focus right now is being home and raising my kids, so I spend as much time with them as I can. However, I do hire babysitters once or twice a week to stay with my kids while I crank out some writing time. At least, this was the case before I had my baby. I’ve been on mental maternity leave up until now and I’m just starting to get back into the writing world! I do believe balance is so important though. My plan is to set a schedule for myself where I can stay in the moment and be a mother without writing distractions, knowing that later in the day or the week I will also set aside time for writing. I also find it incredibly important to exercise a couple times a week and eat well to keep up my energy!

Why did you write this book?

Once I graduated college, I worked as a recreation therapist with a number of different residential treatment programs for at-risk youth. I have a special place in my heart for those kids and the tough circumstances they have been through! Vanishing Act explores how one’s childhood experiences can affect a person later in life as a young adult. I loved most of the treatment centers I worked at. However, some of my observations while working with children in foster care made me question the intentions of a few caregivers. Fortunately, most of the people I worked with were compassionate and caring, but there were a few who made me wonder what it must be like for some of these kids behind closed doors. Not to say I suspected abuse at all in these circumstances. It was more like indifference and lack of empathy towards the kids. But it did lead me to read news articles and journal entries from foster kids throughout the country. While neglect and abuse are perhaps the minority in the system, even if it’s one child’s life, that is one tragic story, and it’s worth telling.

What experiences from your past do you find yourself drawing upon repeatedly for inspiration in your work?

I had a lot of ups and downs in my childhood. Mostly positive experiences, but there were definitely some tough emotional situations I had to deal with. I pull these emotions into my main characters and explore them in different situations that are not true to my life, yet realistic all the same. I think this makes my writing and my storyline relatable, even with the suspenseful drama thrown in there.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years, both as an author and in your outside life?

I’d love to keep writing books, and while the publishing world seems to be on the rise for eBooks, I’d be so thrilled if any of my books made it onto the shelves in Barnes & Noble! I would also love to get my books into the hands of more young adult readers. Each of my books so far have important life lessons that I hope more teens will be drawn to.

Since you are a storyteller, please tell one good lie about yourself.

As a competitive athlete in high school (that part is true), I was adamant that I be allowed to join the wrestling team and compete against the male wrestlers on the team. (Not true. I know nothing about wrestling, nor would I find it appealing!) During one particularly tough match, I found myself pinned by a very toned, blond haired, blue eyed boy who proposed to me years later when we ran into each other in college. (Ha ha! Obviously not true, except for the part about my husband being a wrestler who did propose to me when we met for the first time in college.)

Thank you so much for the interview!

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Along the edges of darkness, a war of attrition rages between the demon plane and the Tehrex Realm.  Dark Warriors alone stand between humans and the evil that seeks to destroy them.  Zander Tarakesh, the sexy as sin vampire king, leads the battle.  Zander is battle-hardened and accustomed to command, yet wrestles to regain control when his Fated Mate is propelled into his world, bombarding him with unfamiliar emotions.  His life depends on him uniting with Elsie, the slip of a mortal, who unknowingly protects a vital piece of his soul.  Eradicating the demons will be an easier task than combating her sense of guilt and betrayal to gain her acceptance, loyalty, and ultimately her love.  And, he must do this before she plunges a stake in his heart.  One thing is certain; the flames of passion ignite a fire in their shared souls…

Elsie Hayes’ life is shattered after the vicious murder of her husband.  Intent on revenge, she spends her evenings killing creatures others only see in nightmares.  A supernatural event teleports Elsie into a world filled with violence, magic and unexpected lust and love when she is thrust from widow to Fated Mate of the enigmatic vampire king.  Can she lower the protective shield around her heart, giving herself to a vampire whose power is the very reason her life was changed forever?

Excerpt
Elsie woke, drenched in sweat with a scream trapped on her lips and her sheets tangled around her legs. Her sister stirred next to her on the queen-sized mattress. She didn’t want to wake her and shoved a fist into her mouth, stifling the scream from clawing its way out as the images from her nightmare continued to consume her. No matter how long and hard she fought it, the visions and memories refused to leave her.

It always started the same, with her standing on cracked linoleum in the long hall of the group home where Dalton was murdered. She had relived that entire night countless times over the past eighteen months. She squeezed her eyes shut as the images flooded her aching brain for what seemed like the millionth time. An abattoir surrounded her. The walls were sprayed with blood, and there were pools of the crimson liquid congealing on the black-and-white checkerboard floor. She gagged when she saw a lump of bright, red meat on the floor. Flesh. Yellow flags and cones lined the walls and floor, amidst the carnage. Her stomach revolted while her body went numb.

In between heaving, she had whispered a plea for help. No one responded and she fell into a heap on the floor. Mindless of the blood she sat in, she gazed at the sight of her husband lying in a pool of blood, his sightless eyes trained on her. His neck had been torn open and shredded. How long she sat there screaming she didn’t know. But, finally, a police officer escorted her away from his body and out of the house where her nightmare was made worse when she came up against a mass of news media shouting questions about her husband being the latest TwiKill victim. Her world came to a crashing halt that night. At that moment, a huge black hole imploded into an endless ache in her chest.

Now, eighteen months later, that black hole had grown thorns and pierced her heart. The pain forced her to curl into a ball on her bed. She hated how much power the memories had over her. Joining SOVA had been a way to gain some of that power back. Still, she longed to be a normal college student again. You haven’t been normal since you were three years old, she thought wryly.

 About the Authors:
Neither Brenda nor Tami grew up writing stories or dreaming of one day being authors but that changed when they shared a joint dream of creating a world to bring to life the stories of a group of dangerously handsome supernaturals.Brenda is a Southern California girl who grew up in chaos, having ten siblings.  Her mother is a brave, courageous woman who gave birth to a small village of children and has successfully battled advanced stage breast cancer for almost two years.  Her parents did something right and taught Brenda how to persevere and accomplish whatever she set her mind to.  Whether that was completing her bachelors and Masters degrees, or writing books, she is always up for a challenge.Brenda survived the brutal murder of her first husband, John DeCaprio, at the hands of the children he was counseling to go on and help children in similar situations.  Brenda remarried years later and now lives with her husband and their three fun-loving, energetic children.  She loves running, reading, cooking, and Monster Energy drinks.  And, Tami’s margaritas!Tami is a southern girl, born and raised in Georgia. She is married and has two boys, so needless to say, she is surrounded by testosterone. We are trying to bottle Tami’s strength and positive outlook on life.  It has helped her beat breast cancer and she is a proud three-year survivor. She loves reading paranormal romances, running at the lake near her home, watching college football (Go Dawgs!!!), and is always in search of the next best margarita.

Their life journeys led them both to Texas and one another.  They fast became best friends and can always be found together.  Whether it’s lounging by the pool or writing steamy love scenes, they are frequently seen pissing themselves from laughter.  It’s embarrassing, really.  But that’s ok, life is good!

Here’s my interview with these lovely ladies!
  1. Describe your relationship with a good book.

A good book is like a great love affair. You’d rather be immersed between the pages just like you’d be between the sheets. You put off house work, laundry and anything else just to get to the next chapter. And, the more passion, the better.

  1. When did you first start writing and what was the first thing that you wrote that you were proud of?

If you don’t count college, and trust us, we don’t because those years were too long ago to remember. Dream Warrior was our first endeavor as authors and we are most proud of it. It’s our baby and took us two years and countless revisions to get to the version you can download today. We are immensely proud of the accomplishment and hope you enjoy reading it as much as we have enjoyed writing it.

  1. Please describe your work ethic as an author.

Our work ethic involves laughter, candy and Monster Energy Drinks. We write every day and our routine is the same. It’s like any other job, you’ve got to put the time in. When we have conflicts we take sick leave and make the hours up later in the day. When not writing, we focus on the business aspect of being an Indie author and talking about ideas for future books.

  1. How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life?

We are married with children and our writing is primarily when they are at school and work. We switch to mom role when they get home and become taxi, swim mom, teacher and nurse. We stuff the job of taking care of the house into every free half hour that we can and if there is a larger pile of dirty laundry or if the toys need to be picked up, that’s okay.

  1. Why did you write this book?

We had many great love affairs with books and would develop stories on our walks to the elementary school in the afternoons. Finally, we decided to write them down. It was amazing how each idea has taken a life of its own. It’s been a blast!

  1. What experiences from your past do you find yourself drawing upon repeatedly for inspiration in your work?

We began Dream Warrior with the inspiration of the murder of Brenda’s first husband, but we really use life as inspiration. We carry an iPad and are constantly telling each other to jot ideas down so we don’t forget. Nothing is held sacred from us and we’ve had all of our friends sign a waiver! Our motto is, ‘it’ll end up in a book’.

  1. What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years, both as an author and in your outside life?

Our goal was to have seven books released in our first year and we will reach that, if not, surpass it. Of course, we’d love to make a best sellers list, but honestly we have so many stories that we still want to share. Once we opened that closet door, the skeletons fell out and just keep coming. Some have been charred by the fire of life and some still have bloody bits of flesh clinging to them, but they all make for juicy stories. Outside life? What’s that?

  1. Since you are a storyteller, please tell one good lie about yourself.

We have to confess that we really aren’t best friends…we’re twin sisters. And, to top it off, we’re vampires. Don’t tell our parents (Zander and Elsie), but Dream Warrior is their story. We grew up hearing the great love story between mom and dad and always thought it romantic. When dad issued a royal decree telling us that he wasn’t supporting us any longer (Apparently, we should be able to earn our keep when we reach one hundred and twenty five. Absurd, right?), we decided to pretend to be humans and publish their story as a way to support ourselves. Writing the love scenes between our parents forced us into therapy, but even with that expense, we are rolling in the money, so we’ve decided to move on and write Uncle Jace and Aunt Cailyn’s story then Uncle Kyran and Aunt Mackendra’s. If mom doesn’t put us in the Zeum dungeons after that, we plan to cover the whole family. Who knew dysfunction was so lucrative? Thanks for joining us on this adventure and we hope you’ll stay tuned for more to come.

A terrible tragedy forced Alana McCarthy to forget a year of her life. Now she is to be executed for a crime she does not remember committing—the murder of her entire family. Lost and alone, Alana is terrified of unlocking secrets buried so deep inside her mind that she’s willing to forget the one person who could set her free.
Daniel Costello hasn’t forgotten about Alana, and he will do anything and everything to protect the girl he loves. But first, Alana needs to unlock her memories and find out the truth about what happened the night her family was killed.
The day of her execution is set. Together, will Alana and Daniel be able to uncover the truth behind her family’s deaths before it’s too late?
Excerpt from Shattered Memories by Susan Harris:
Suddenly I was angry… angry at my parents for dying and leaving me alone… angry at Sophia for being too small to defend herself… angry at Daniel for giving me false hope… angry at myself for letting pathetic fantasies take over my mind.

I jumped off the bed and screamed. The next thing I knew I had used what little strength left to overturn the bed, scattering all the bedding to the floor. I took one of the pillows and beat it across the wall. Then I kicked the bin with such force it smashed into the door with a sickening thud.

While continuing on my furious rampage, the door slid open and strong arms captured me from behind, holding my own in place. I struggled to break free and kicked out, but those arms would not let me go. I cried in frustration and tasted the saltiness of the tears on my lips.

“Shush, Alana, please… come on… calm down for me or else they are going to shock you. Hurts like a bitch. Come on, girl… shush. I got you.”

Connors’ voice sounded in my ear, and he kept shushing me until I stilled in his arms. My legs gave out, and we both went to the floor. Connors loosened his grip on me but still held me tight. My sobs became louder, and the pain in my chest was so bad that I thought I was dying. Through my sobs, I heard Connors say that I was okay and to please just give him a minute. I heard someone argue with him, and he snarled and told them to piss off. The tears soaked my top, and I felt nothing but tiredness as I shoved against Connors, needing to breathe. He did not let go.

My god, I felt so lost. I closed my eyes and screamed out the last of my frustration and anger before tiredness won out. I gave in and let the darkness pull me under.
